FED:Getting on top of New Year's resolutions

Before you think about making a New Year's resolution that you're likely to fail at
within the first week, think about what your real goals are for 2012.

That's the advice of experts who say it takes more than a whim decision to make major
changes in your life.

According to the University of Sydney, the most common New Year's resolutions are weight
loss and getting fit, giving up smoking and or alcohol, as well as being financially smarter.

The founder of the Jetts gym franchise, BRENDON LEVENSON, says people are more likely
to achieve fitness goals if they're based on personal motivation, rather than a date on
the calendar.

Adelaide-based psychologist and life coach DARRYL CROSS says New Year's resolutions
are only good for creating excitement on the night, adding people are more likely to stick
to resolutions if they plan ahead.
