Mar. 22--SCHENECTADY -- Delia Hernandez, the woman who stood idly by as her boyfriend savagely abused her daughter, Xctasy, wept while reading a letter detailing how she hopes to get her life together and one day reunite with her children.

But in sentencing Hernandez to seven years in state prison under a second-degree assault plea, Schenectady County Judge Karen Drago, was unfazed by the emotional appeal.

Xctasy, now 5 years old, had bleach rubbed in her eyes, nearly blinding her, and suffered broken bones at the hands of Hernandez's boyfriend, Jose Munoz. He was sentenced Tuesday to 17 years in state prison.
